OurTime is a dating site for users aged 50 and over looking for love, fun or even just friends. Some members just want pen-pals or online chats, in fact, while others are looking for love connections or a bit of fun. This niche dating site is aimed at singles only, it doesn’t require picture or phone verification, but you also won’t get much out of the free version and paid sites act as their own form of deterrent for scammers etc. The site is owned by Metric, who control several other top sites including Match.com. The site is well designed and easy to use (even for older and less tech savvy users!) and it looks good too, as do the Android and iOS apps. It resembles other Metric dating sites, and is fresh, clean and cheerfully designed. The over 50s dating scene is on the up and up, with this demographic making up an increasingly large chunk of daters, and OurTime is a key up and coming player in the scene, while also trying to shake things up with OurTime Events!
Signing up to OurTime is easy and simple, and you’re talked through the process by on screen prompts. After inputting your email and a password, and you name, age, gender and the age of the kind of person you’re looking for you’ll be asked a few questions about lifestyle and physical appearance, and a photo will be requested. After that, you’re in!
With OurTime, you will find a whole host of filters to comb through members near you. Not only can you filter by age, gender and location as on most sites, you can also search for users with mutual interests, as well as habits and whether their accounts have pictures.
If you want to play fast and loose, you can use the Gallery tool, which shows you random users’ pictures and allows you to either like or say no to them. OurTime suggests a few ice-breaking talking points, and you can message users you like, or send winks. Only premium members have access to unlimited messaging.
As all members are asked questions about themselves and what they’re looking for at sign up, profiles are pretty comprehensive. You can, of course, extend your bio later or answer any questions you skipped during sign up. There’s also a My Passions section to fill out, in which you can let everyone know what you like to do in your spare time or are interested in. You will also see common interests when you view other users’ profiles.
OurTime is only really effective if you pay for premium. Seeing other users is about all you get otherwise, so acts as a sort of taster to the experience. OurTime subscriptions are available in 1, 3 and 6 month packages, and while it isn’t the cheapest dating site out there it’s not the most expensive either, and it’s definitely a really high quality site.
If you want to cancel a subscription, make sure you do so at least 48 hours before the payment is due to come out of your account. Simply do this by turning auto renewal off. You can also delete your account fully in the Settings tab, or suspend it temporarily for a one off payment of 1.99.
OurTime’s online users list is called Discover, and shows you users who are online or have recently been online. Users close to you are listed first.
Same sex searches and matches are available on OurTime, which is not always the case on sites like this.
All users on OurTime can send winks, which are like a flirty little hello. You can only message, however, with a premium subscription.
You can Like users on OurTime, and if they also like you then you’ll be told and if a premium member you can message them. This encourages a more active kind of looking, and a more full use of the site.
Sending Interest is just like Liking a user, or sending them a wink. It shows that you’re… well… interested but without too much effort on your part. So, not THAT interested. You can show interest in all members.
All members of OurTime can see one another’s pictures. They’re prominently displayed on profiles, and you can have several, showing all facets of who you are!
One of the most unusual, and best, features of OurTime are OurTime activities. These are real life meet ups for members, held in the UK, Ireland and France where most of the site’s members are based. They can be anything from casual drinks to organised trips to a local site of interest. Activities are a great way to meet singles, whether you’re looking for love or just friendship. You do have to pay for activities, with a discount for premium members.
What do you get if you pay for a premium account on OurTime? Here are a few of the added benefits.
If you want to make contact on OurTime, you have to be a premium member. You can still only message users with whom you share a mutual Like, but this is really helpful overall because it massively cuts down on nuisance messages and bots.
Affiny is an enhanced personality test that will ask a whole variety of questions about who you are, what you like, and what you want out of life and out of a potential partner. Then it’ll match you with people you’re bound to find things in common with.
These two features can be added whether or not you’re a premium member, but there is an extra fee for them if you aren’t. Boost puts your profile at the top of the pile, and Incognito allows you to browse profiles without showing up in their owners’ list of recent visitors.
As a premium OurTime member, you can see who liked you. This might not sound like much, but as you need mutual Likes to make contact this feature is essentially the only way to pick and choose exactly who you talk to, knowing it will be possible.

OurTime is a new kid on the block, ironically given its niche as an over 50s dating site, but it’s got a lot to offer and as it’s operated by Match Group, who have run several successful sites including Match.com, users can trust it. It’s aimed at older daters, specifically 50+. but the site certainly isn’t dated! It’s super usable, and very slick and modern. There’s also a really good app for both iOS and Android. You have to pay to message, so without paying the site is basically just a preview, but if you’re serious about finding someone - whether for love, fun or friendship - then paying should be worth it. OurTime Activities are a lovely touch, giving users the opportunity to meet in real life and have fun with other single seniors. This young site is up and coming, and it is picking up new users all the time, plus its users tend to be really active. If you’re worried about being an older person on more traditional dating sites, then OurTime may well be the dating option that will work best for you. Most of its users are looking for something real, whether it’s serious or more casual, and as all users are older you’ll not feel uncomfortable as a silver surfer trying to date!
I went out on a lot of dates with this site. Everyone was nice and polite for the most part. I didn't meet my true love on a dating site but I was only on it for 6 months. My experience was positive, and I would use the site again no problem.
I got 3 to 4 times more messages from people hundreds to thousands of miles away than from anyone within 50 miles. I contacted the customer service about this and NEVER got a response. Maybe there was no one near me, but I would like to have been told. Everyone seemed nice, but it didn’t work for me.
Its a good dating site focused on over 50s! I actually achieved three dates in Liverpool and Manchester and was pleasantly surprised - and one looks as if she could turn into a long term partner :)
My husband and I met on OurTime. I had been on many sites for a few years and not having much success. I finally joined OurTime. I went on a few dates and, again, no match. I said to myself and friends this one will be my last date. I went to the restaurant and didn't see him. I called a friend and said that I was stood up. Turns out we missed each other. We then went on a date that lasted 4 hours. We've now been married 3 years and I'm so happy.
