If you’re in the world of online dating in any capacity, you will have heard of Ok Cupid. It’s a dating behemoth, hitting the sweet spot between super casual apps and the very very serious finding-love type sites. There’s a premium membership option, but Ok Cupid is totally usable without paying for it. There are members all over the world, 50 million of them in fact, and many are active in the USA and the UK. People of every age use the site, well, every age over 18, but the most active age group is 25-35. There are more male than female users, by a fair margin in fact, but despite that most users seem to find love. LGBT+ pairings are encouraged, too. Most Ok Cupid users are looking for relationships, whether more casual or serious, though there are options for everything from new friends to long term relationships. Basically, if you want to meet new people in any way, get on Ok Cupid.
SIgning up to Ok Cupid is easy enough, though there is a section of 15 questions after you provide your picture and bio. These are mostly about what you want and your personality, and also let you tell the site what your ideal partner would answer for the same questions. All of these can be skipped to answer later. Importantly, you also have to verify your phone number for Ok Cupid, so only sign up if you’re willing to do that.
Immediately after you sign up to Ok Cupid, you will be sent matches. Matches are scored on compatibility to you, and given a percentage for compatibility. You can also search users, with all the usual options like distance, age and gender. You can message anyone on Ok Cupid who you like and who likes you back.
Double Take is what Ok Cupid calls its matchmaking game. You probably know these by now - you swipe left or right on a user’s photo, indicating whether or not you like them.
In its early days, Ok Cupid was more for fun than serious dating. These days, though, many of its users are looking for more. So, it stands to reason that you can put a lot of detail about yourself on your profile. There’s the bio and a few about me sections to fill in, as usual, but there are also absolutely loads of personality questions to answer. They get pretty specific, and pretty odd! Once you’ve answered enough, you will also be awarded Personality Traits, which will be displayed on your profile. All users can view one another’s profile.
Ok Cupid is one of the veteran dating sites that is perfectly usable without paying for premium. That being said, premium, whether a 1, 3 or 6 month subscription, isn’t particularly expensive. If you like the site, and maybe want a little more, or your luck seems to have dried up, then why not give it a try and see if the profile boosts and priority messages help your dating quest?
Canceling is easy, and there are no tricks. Simply cancel your membership through the Account Setting tab. You’ll be able to use your premium perks until the end of that billing cycle. Be aware, Ok Cupid does auto-renew, so remember to cancel when you no longer want to pay!
Ok Cupid provides you with matches immediately, and it also shows you your % compatibility with everyone you might encounter on the site. This compatibility test is based on questions, some of which you answer initially upon signing up and some of which you can answer later.
Same sex searches and matches are available on Ok Cupid, which is not always the case on sites like this. In fact, you are also encouraged to share your pronouns on your profile.
All users get full message sending and receiving privileges on Ok Cupid, but you can only message once you have mutually hit ‘like’. That is, you must like them and they must also like you.
Double Take is Ok Cupid’s swipe game. It’s a particularly strong example of the like or dislike based on a photo model, and works great on the app.
You can keep track of everyone you like under this tab, like a favourites’ list. You can like someone and go back to them later, or maybe gaze at their pictures while you wait for them to like you back so that you can start chatting...
This one has been going for a while. The Ok Cupid blog is written by the geeks who run the site and write the algorithm. They post great articles about how to get the most out of Ok Cupid, as well as weird and interesting stats about users, and info on site updates or ideas for what the geeks might do next!
What do you get if you pay for a premium account on OK Cupid? Here are a few of the added benefits.
Premium members can either boost their accounts with their daily boost, or get discounts on further boosts. A boost puts you at the top of the pile, making sure that you appear more often to other users, whether that’s in Double Take or in normal searches.
Premium members can take a peek at who liked their profile. Remember, you can only message after mutual likes, so clicking on the Like tab and choosing users to engage with there means definitely being able to start a chat.
Premium members can be much more specific with what (and so who) they are searching for, meaning they are more likely to find that perfect match.

Ok Cupid is an unusual thing; a fifteen-year-old-dating site that has somehow kept up with the times! It presents itself as a step up from swiping through apps, a slight added level of seriousness, and yet it’s still you and fun. Most features are available to nonpaying members, so everyone can use the site. It doesn’t have a huge number of bells and whistles - fancy extra features you may use now and again but then forget about or be annoyed by are not Ok Cupid’s thing. But it delivers quality. Its matching algorithm is one of the best in the game, and the questions have always been a really fun part of being on the site. In fact, answering them is sort of a game in itself. The app is also really usable and intuitive, so it’s possible to casually browse Ok Cupid whenever you have a spare minute. Ok Cupid is a very solid choice for those who want a little more than just one night stands or booty calls, but don’t want to commit to anything too grownup or costly.
I actually met my husband on this website. I would have never met him if okcupid did not match us together. I have never been happier! Thanks to Ok Cupid, I guess. And the wine-fuelled evening I decided to sign up!
Met my wife here a few years ago, and we are married now for quite some time, so I was happy with the opportunity. Their interface is also much more useful than the run of the mill ones. Quite some thought was put into this. Of course I can only vouch for the past, not for how they are right now.
Okcupid is a good dating site. Beautiful and easy-to-navigate interface and it's FREE.You can upgrade to A-list at a very low cost(compared to other major dating sites). It's just I haven't met anyone from okc so far, and I haven’t wanted to. But maybe that’s just my luck? Or I’m picky. Ha.
People on OkCupid tend to be more interesting, more entertaining and better to talk to than on most other dating sites I've seen. Plus the personality tests etc are a reason to browse, even if you're not single!
